As much as we’d like to hang out with the same friends all through school, there is so much we would miss out on if we didn’t make an effort of getting to know different people.
Maybe your pals are in a different class this year or maybe you’re moving to college, whatever the reason – now is a good time to make new friends!
Follow this 5 step approach to making friends –
1 – Make the effort. Try to talk to different people. Speak to one new person every week.
2 – Don’t be judge mental. Just because a girl is good with studies doesn’t mean she’s a nerd! It works the other way round too. Give people a fair chance.
3 – Listen. Spend some time and listen to her rather than comparing her to your old friends. Your differences might give you a different point of view or make you try something new.
4 - Limit the gossip: Unless you want to be known as the gossip girl that no one trusts, ensure that bitching/complaining/spreading rumours is kept to a minimum.
5 – Don’t forget the old friends: Keep in touch with your old friends too. Better still introduce your friends to each other and increase your social circle. Don’t be too possessive about friends. It’s more fun for everyone that way!
